About the ZEST Kitchen Journal
The ZEST Kitchen Journal is where we write about the food inside ZEST — authentic recipes from around the world, the craft of the kitchen, and the games worth playing to unwind.
Who writes it
Karsten Schwarzkopf is an indie iOS developer based in Leipzig, Germany, and the creator of ZEST. He designs and builds the app solo — from the puzzle mechanics to the food photography — and writes the Kitchen Journal. The recipes are researched from traditional, authoritative sources and prepared the way they're actually made, not simplified for clicks.
What ZEST is
ZEST is a relaxing cooking puzzle game for iPhone and iPad. You solve puzzles built from real, world-class recipes, plate the finished dish, and unlock it into a permanent digital cookbook you can cook from. It's a one-time purchase, has no ads and no subscriptions. There are three modes — Zen, Rush and Strategy — and a career that rises from Commis to Chef Légendaire.
How we work
- Recipes reflect traditional, authentic preparations — with the real techniques, ratios and timings.
- All photography is original, shot for ZEST.
- Guides (like our relaxing-games roundup) cite real alternatives honestly, not just our own app.
- We keep articles current and note when they were last updated.
